Mistur - Skoddefjellet

Mistur was in established in 2003 by two lads from Kaupanger – a small part of Sogndal County in Norway. Another band from the same county – Windir, was probably the band which put Sogndal on the world metal map, something which I would dare to think have influenced Mistur more or less. At least this can be heard on their demo, as the music really got the sound and atmosphere which would categorize them into the less famous sognametal genre.
Somebody would probably go as far as saying that Mistur is pure plagiarism of Windir. I would say no without hesitation. Actually the guitar amplification which was used on this demo was used as lead on the Likferd album by Windir, as one of the founding Mistur members is a relative of Strom of Windir. I think that this was a nice choice as I really like the sound very much!
The track-list contains four songs, where there is one intro, two songs and one instrumental which I would categorize as an outro. My favorite track is definitely the title-track, which is probably the part that reminds me most about Windir, but still has something of its own which I can’t put the finger on! The song is amazing, and I really hope they would put up more songs like this on future release! I also like the last song, which actually are a folktune. Even though this is a really good arrangement of the tune, I would definitely have dropped the sound effects on the start of it.
Overall this demo is a very convincing release, and I’m sure that you will hear more from Mistur as this sounds very promising! The only negative I have to say about this demo is that there could have been more songs on it, and that the rest of the material doesn’t have the same quality as the mentioned title-track. But as I said, this is overall very good! Keep it coming guys!
