Nominon - Terra Necrosis
Reviewed by AJ Blisten in 10/24/2007
Swedish death metallers NOMINON paid us a visit last year and now they're back with a new full-length album, which is the band's third. "Terra Necrosis" offers 10 new NOMINON songs to all of us who are more or less addictive to death metal after all these crazy years listening to good and bad bands.
What about NOMINO? Is this a good death metal band? Or is it a bad one?
It's definitely not a terrible band. It's obvious that NOMINON knows the death metal code and DNA, no doubt about that. There's nothing wrong with the attitude or the way the song are played. But there's something missing. I think that the songs on "Terra Necrosis" lacks originality and surprising moments, intriguing elements and captivating twist or turns - call it whatever you want - which makes an album memorable. Despite all the death metal expression that comes through in the songs, all the death metallic structures and musical textures we appreciate, vocally and musically, "Terra Necrosis" doesn't kick my ass and take me away as a brilliant death metal album should. NOMINOM does everything after the book, but fail to convince me and put me in a mode like a good handful other death metal bands do. All the energetic delivery and the bands attempts to get through to me ends up in something like "just another mediocre and uninspired death metal album". To me "Terra Necrosis" is just another anonymous and dull dime a dozen death metal album…
