Deadmarch: The Project Hate MCMXCIX - Initiation Of Blasphemy
Reviewed by AJ Blisten in 1/14/2010

DEADMARCH was the first tentative steps into the metal circus for this band that we now know as THE PROJECT HATE MCMXCIX.
Under this moniker seven album's been released thus far, from "Cybersonic Superchrist" back in 2000 to "The Lustrate Process" released in 2009.

All albums released on small independent record labels leaving THE PROJECT HATE MCMXCIX in the dark hidden from the metal masses, except for the first two album, the one mentioned above and the band's second offering, "When We Are Done, You're Flesh Will be Ours" (2001), which were released through Massacre Records.

Vic Records came into the picture after the band put out "In Hora Mortis Nostrae" in 2007 and according to founding member Lord K. Philipson it was Vic that wanted to put out the previously unreleased DEADMARCH album, which was recorded back in 1998.

"Initiation Of Blasphemy" is not a milestone in goth influenced death metal. It's not too bad, but far from brilliant, to put it that way… I'd say it's a kind of a curiosity. The somewhat archaic keyboards prove that it's an "old" album and the female vocals wouldn't pass the test today, if it should be up to me to decide…
The overall sound and production on this recording lacks the rich dynamics and the powerful edge that's expressed in a much better, heavier and more convincing way in the latest THE PROJECT HATE MCMXCIX albums.

This previously unreleased DEADMARCH album deserves a chance and it's obviously a 'must-have' for fans of this great Swedish band that's already provided us with a good handful of fine releases and I'm sure we can look forward to get a lot more good stuff from THE PROJECT HATE MCMXCIX in the future.
