Kadavrik - ...Until The Die Is Cast
Reviewed by Eddie Risdal in 1/28/2010

A few years ago I got a mail from an German band that I never had heard of before. The guys were all in the beginning of their twenties and were going to spend their Summer holiday driving around in Norway and was looking for some gigs. They played in my hometown and they rocked really well, and sounded much better than the demo tracks I heard on their Myspace. Not long after they put out this album, and what a huge improvement from the demo days!

One intro plus eight songs in fourty minutes of first class melodeath, wrapped in an almost perfect production, these boys were serious from the first note. "Icecold Winter's Grave" is a well of good riffs and melodies, and Niklas Pietsch's vocals are sharp and fitting like a glove. The interaction between lead guitar and keyboards is also cleveryly split and creates smooth and interesting progress through the songs. The band is (luckily) not afraid to mention their inspirations, and bands like Children Of Bodom, Kataklysm, Amon Amarth and In Flames are indeed some I also could mention as comparisons.

The only really negative thing here is that the drums (especially the kick drum) sounds a bit artificial, so maybe they should haven't been triggered that much? Except from that there is not much that can tell you that this is a debut album from musicians who started to play their instruments just over three years back, as the songs are so cleverly arranged and structured, and not to mention well played! I don't really feel the need to drag any particular songs into the spotlight, as the whole album has such a high level, but still I'd mention "Baptized In Alcohol", as it has an original title and is also the song that differs most from the rest, being more slow/mid paced than the rest. I'd imagine this is a great sing-along song on their concerts!"...Until The Die Is Cast" is highly recommended if you like melodic death/black metal.
