While Heaven Wept - Vast Oceans Lachrymose

Are you a fan of classic metal? Yeah, that’s what I thought. You’re at the right place at the right time.
Once I heard “Voice In The Wind”, I just couldn’t forget the name WHW. Now they’re back with a new album, “Vast Oceans Lachrymose”, which actually was released in November 2009. Good for me and others that appreciates WHILE HEAVEN WEPT.
Well… where to start… I’m overwhelmed each time artists manage to create an album at this high level, which beats a lot of other in the same genre, who tries as hard as they can. “Vast Oceans Lachrymose” contains six tracks. The music has got the combination of harmony, empathy and punctuality. It’s easy to notice that this album’s not produced with boxing gloves.
WHILE HEAVEN WEPT glides between classic, experimental and progressive metal. It’s hard to place WHILE HEAVEN WEPT In just one genre, because they handles many techniques, you can easily hear that. The opening track “The Furthest Shore” is an almost 16 minute long journey on the ocean, which includes different types of musicals effects. To mention some: compactness, speed, acoustic guitar picking, keyboard and emotional, harmonized solos. All these effects make a heavenly music experience. This track is definitely one of the goodies on this album.
“Vast Oceans Lachrymose” is the title track. This is a pure melodic track. It’s a slow track with harmonized guitar, simply elegant and beautiful, no doubt! “Living Sepulchre” is the most powerful and progressive track on this album. The drumming on this track is really heavy and massive, it deserves applause. Rain Irving does the lead vocal and Tom Phillips does the harmony vocal. They’re both born for singing and to create music.
WHILE HEAVEN WEPT are extremely good in doing transitions and change of pace. This results in a comfortable sound picture, which my heart and spirit seems to love! The solos actually made goose bumps on my skin, and that’s a good sign! “Vast Oceans Lachrymose” Beats the Blizzard, oh yes it does! In a very convincing way! So take your ship and sail to the music store and get yourself the album, right away! You deserve it!
