Sammath - Triumph in Hatred
Reviewed by Jan F. Lindsø in 5/16/2010
Sammath from Holland plays a kind of brutal black metal, and has existed since 1994. Strangely enough I haven’t heard about them before. And even though they have existed since the so called early 90’s black metal scene, they didn’t release any albums until 1999. And in 2009 they released their 4th album in 10 years, Triumph in Hatred, which I am now holding in my hands.
One of the few things that really impress me is the drums. They are really intense and diabolic. Not too varied, but I guess it has to go with the rest of the music in this case, which in all kind of ways are just too repetitive.
I’m not going to be focusing only on the negative sides of “Triumph in Hatred”, as there also are some good ideas in it. Some of the riffs are actually quite good and interesting. One of the headlights are the beginning of “Interlude Torment”, but unfortunately the rest of the song moves into a state of boredom. Another thing I really don’t like, are the vocals. They really lack of power and conviction. I am not going to start with the production, which is one sterile bastard.
