Cales - KRF
Reviewed by Linn-Elise Jenssen in 7/28/2010

CALES is a band from the Czech Republic. The band was founded in 1993, by Blackosh, who actually today is the only man left in CALES. KRF is CALES’s fifth album. This time Blackosh has played all the instruments, written the lyrics, and even recorded “KRF”.

CALES lies in the pagan metal genre, which is close to both folk and Viking metal. In these eight tracks you find scope and high focus on the drums.
This album does obviously not lack punch and energy. The introduction of “KRF” has got more “hip hooray” melodies, unlike the last tracks, which are characterized by more melancholy. Therefore I only mention the three last tracks, which I think are the best on this album. Blackosh sings in a more normal pitch on the last tracks. This also suites him better, as far as I can see.
“Legacy Of Honour”, “Savage Blood” and “Magnificent Masterpiece Of Apocalypse” are the three last tracks. These tracks have got elements of guitar solos and accordion tones. They are basically quiet songs, which makes a naturally balance on the album.

Well, this time the pagan metal didn’t actually hit me in my heart, but Blackosh is a talented musician although. His musical achievements and texts lie in a much higher level than his vocal performances. In addition to that, the English is not very well, and that`s a factor that pulls the album a bit down vocal wise.
